On February 14, people across the world celebrate love with candy, flowers, gifts and romantic dinners. This day, named after a mysterious saint, began as early as the 1400’s. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 Valentine’s Day, and soon after the holiday was associated with love. As a matter of fact, the oldest known Valentine was written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife. Ever since the 1400s, letters, gifts, and tokens of appreciation are exchanged on this holiday in England, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Australia and the United States.
